This Privacy Policy explains how MangaLang collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and related web services.
1. Information We Collect
A. Information You Provide Directly
- Account Information: When you register via Google Sign-In or Email/Password, we collect your email address, display name, and authentication tokens via Firebase Authentication.
- Guest / Anonymous Users: If you use MangaLang as a guest, a local anonymous session is generated. No email address or personally identifying information is collected from guest sessions.
B. Learning Activity & Progress
- Reading & Quiz Progress: Completed story chapters, comprehension quiz answers, study streaks, and study duration.
- Spaced Repetition System (SRS) Data: Saved vocabulary cards, review ratings (Again, Hard, Good, Easy), and SM-2 review schedules.
- App Preferences: Selected native translation language, audio playback speed, and theme settings.
C. Audio & Microphone Data (Shadowing Practice)
Ephemeral Audio Processing: When using the interactive Shadowing pronunciation feature, your voice audio is processed in-memory solely for real-time pronunciation scoring. Audio clips are never stored, saved, or used to train public AI models.
D. Technical Diagnostics
- Standard crash reports and performance metrics (via Firebase Crashlytics) to diagnose stability issues and improve the app.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Core App Functionality: Authenticating your session, synchronizing your saved vocabulary and reading progress across devices, and delivering audio narration.
- Personalized Learning: Displaying word definitions and quizzes in your chosen native translation language.
- Subscription Management: Validating and restoring MangaLang Pro entitlements purchased via Google Play Billing.
- App Reliability: Detecting crashes and troubleshooting performance issues.
3. Third-Party Service Providers
We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data. We utilize trusted cloud infrastructure providers strictly to deliver the service:
- Google Firebase (Google LLC): Authentication tokens, cloud progress sync (Firestore), and secure media streaming (Cloud Storage).
- Google Play Billing (Google LLC): Secure payment and subscription processing. We do not store or have access to payment card details.
- Google Cloud TTS: Narration audio generation.
4. What We Do NOT Do
- No Third-Party Ad Networks: MangaLang does not integrate advertising SDKs or tracking pixels.
- No Data Brokering: We never sell user data to data brokers or marketing companies.
- No Background Audio Recording: The microphone is only active while actively holding or tapping the recording button during shadowing exercises.
5. Data Security & Retention
All data transmitted between the MangaLang application and our backend is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 / HTTPS. Database access is strictly governed by authenticated security rules.
We retain learning progress and account data only for as long as your account remains active.
6. Account & Data Deletion
You have full ownership of your data and may permanently delete your account at any time:
- In-App Deletion: Open Settings → Account → Delete Account & Data to immediately wipe your account, cloud data, and learning history.
- Web Deletion Request: Visit our Account Deletion Request Page to submit a deletion request online.
